Honest tips most other sites skip
- GVB ticket and Apple Wallet: don't open the QR code from Apple Wallet or a PDF — scan straight from the GetYourGuide app. Otherwise you risk being charged twice. On iOS, close and reopen the ticket after the NFC warning.
- Schiphol-only: the Travel Ticket train coverage ends at Schiphol station. If your hotel is one stop further (Hoofddorp), you'll pay an extra €4.30 for that hop.
- Check-in and check-out: tap your OV-chipkaart on every vehicle, including when you switch from train to tram. Missing a check-out triggers a penalty fare.
- Travel Ticket and Region Travel Ticket need a card: after buying online you swap the voucher for a physical OV-chipkaart at a Schiphol or Amsterdam Centraal machine. See the step-by-step guide.
FAQ
If you arrive via Schiphol and stay in the city: Amsterdam Travel Ticket. Also planning day trips to Keukenhof, Zaanse Schans or Volendam: Region Travel Ticket. Only need city transport for 1–7 days: GVB Public Transport Ticket.
Yes. The Amsterdam Travel Ticket includes NS trains between Schiphol Airport and any Amsterdam station, plus bus 397 (Airport Express) and the Niteliner N97. The plain GVB Ticket does not include the airport train.
For Travel Ticket and Region Travel Ticket: yes — swap the voucher for an OV-chipkaart at a Schiphol or Amsterdam Centraal machine before the first ride. For the GVB Ticket: no — it stays digital in the app. See the redemption guide.
No. Scan the QR code directly from the GetYourGuide app — not Apple Wallet, not a PDF, not a screenshot. Otherwise the system may charge you twice. On iOS, close and reopen the ticket after the NFC warning to enable the NFC blocker.
Children under 4 ride free. Children 4–11 need their own ticket. The standard ATT and ARTT don't have a child variant — buy them the GVB Day Ticket Child (€5) instead.
Travel Ticket and Region Travel Ticket only come in 1–3 day variants. For 4+ days, take a GVB 7-day ticket and a separate Schiphol return ticket — it usually works out cheaper.
Yes — free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start time, via GetYourGuide. You can also reserve now and pay later.
