When is it worth the upgrade?
The Region ticket costs €3 more per day than the standard Travel Ticket. One day trip and it pays back.
Quick reality check: a one-way NS train Amsterdam ↔ Haarlem alone is roughly €4.30 per person. A Keukenhof shuttle return Schiphol ↔ Keukenhof is €11. If you do any day trip out of Amsterdam, the Region ticket pays for itself.

Honest tips most other sites skip
- Calendar days, not 24-hour blocks. Like the standard Travel Ticket, the Region Travel Ticket runs on calendar days from your first check-in until 4 a.m. the morning after the last valid day. If you arrive at 21:00 and check in straight away with a 1-day ticket, it expires at 04:00 the next morning — only 7 hours later. For a late-evening arrival, check in the next morning instead.
- Voucher exchange needed. Like the standard Travel Ticket, this comes as an online voucher that you swap for an OV-chipkaart at a Schiphol or Amsterdam Centraal machine before the first ride. Step-by-step guide.
- Maximum 3 days. A common reviewer complaint is "we wished there was a 5- or 7-day version." For longer stays, a GVB 7-day ticket plus individual NS day-return tickets is usually cheaper.
- Lost card = no refund. The provider can't replace your OV-chipkaart once issued. Keep it in a pocket, not loose in a bag.
- Keukenhof entry is separate. The ticket covers the shuttle buses only. Book Keukenhof entry on the official site to skip the queue.

The Region Travel Ticket runs on calendar days, not 24-hour blocks. It's valid for 1, 2 or 3 calendar days from your first check-in, until 4 a.m. the morning after the last valid day. If you first check in at 21:00 on Monday with a 1-day ticket, it expires at 04:00 on Tuesday — only 7 hours later. An early-morning arrival gives you much more value. Tip: for a late-evening arrival, check in the next morning instead. This is different from the GVB Public Transport Ticket, which runs in 24-hour blocks from the first scan.
