Coming from Schiphol?
The GVB ticket alone doesn't cover the direct airport train. Three workable options:
- GVB Ticket + NS train return — about €€31.90 for 3 days. Two NS singles at €5.20 each (contactless at the platform gate), or book a mobile ticket via GetYourGuide for €6.30 single — about 10 cents more, no queue. For a 3-day stay, even with the GYG fee that's slightly cheaper than the Travel Ticket.
- GVB Ticket + Airport Express Bus 397 — €€33.25 for 3 days. Bus is door-to-door from Schiphol B17. Book Bus 397 →
- GVB Ticket + bus 369 — included. If you don't mind a transfer at Sloterdijk station, bus 369 is already in the GVB ticket. Takes longer but no extra cost.

Honest tips most other sites skip
- 24-hour blocks, not calendar days. The GVB ticket is valid for 24, 48, 72, 96 or 120 hours from your first scan — so a 1-day ticket bought at 18:00 stays valid until 18:00 the next day. This is different from the Travel Ticket and Region Travel Ticket, which expire at 4 a.m. the morning after the last calendar day. For a late-evening arrival, the GVB ticket gives you a fairer deal than a Travel Ticket.
- Scan from the GetYourGuide app — never Apple Wallet, never a PDF. If the QR is triggered from the wrong app, you can be charged twice. iPhone users: after the NFC warning pops up, close and reopen the ticket in the GetYourGuide app to enable the NFC blocker.
- Tap in AND out on every ride — even on a multi-day ticket. This is GVB's standard. Reviewers find it annoying, but missing a check-out triggers a penalty fare.
- QR scanners sometimes need a second tap. If the reader hesitates, hold the screen still or try the next door — a known minor friction across reviewers.
- The Schiphol catch. Bus 369 (Sloterdijk ↔ Schiphol) is the only airport line covered. For the direct NS train or bus 397, take the Travel Ticket or stack a separate ticket (see section above).
FAQ
The GVB ticket runs in 24-hour blocks from your first scan: 24 hours for the 1-day, 48 for 2-day, up to 168 hours for the 7-day version. If you first scan at 18:00 on Monday with a 1-day ticket, it stays valid until 18:00 on Tuesday — a full 24 hours of use regardless of when you start. This is different from the Travel Ticket and Region Travel Ticket, which run on calendar days and expire at 4 a.m. the morning after the last day. For a late-evening arrival, the GVB ticket gives more value per euro.
